Teachers > Rules (français)

The file below contains the list of regulations to comply with the Dominican Republic. You are invited to submit this list to each of your students before departure.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND DURING YOUR STAY IN SAN PEDRO DE MACORIS
1. Never drink water if you are unsure whether drinking. Bottled water is available in all the houses where the participants live: Make sure you know where to find it. It is strongly suggested to always carry water with you when you leave for the day.
2. Do not drink any juice out of your family. Eat ice cream only available in stores.
3. Eat only food prepared in your host family or in a place where you're sure it was preserved and prepared in a clean environment. If you do not like certain food, tell your family she wishes to prepare dishes that you enjoy and eat.
4. You can withdraw your money every day (RD) with teachers responsible.
5. It is forbidden to throw toilet paper in the toilette, so as not to block the plumbing system. Instead, drop it in the trash that you find in all bathrooms.
7. Some houses have no running water. Ask directions to your host about where to find water to wash and when flushing the water.
8. Young children will probably want to follow you wherever you go. Be aware that activities and periods of reflection are reserved for group members only.
9. All tours out of San Pedro de Macoris are intended to group members and youth of the parish who help the project , only (unless otherwise specified on the schedule).
10. A dress code may apply in certain occasions. When you visit schools and churches (for the Mass at the Church of San Pedro de Macoris and during the visit of the cathedral in Santo Domingo), pants or skirts / dresses are required. No jacket or hat should be worn during these activities.
11. You should be aware that clothing can sometimes provoke strong reactions, especially by men against women Dominicans from elsewhere. A dress is a simple way to avoid uncomfortable situations.
12. Although the Dominicans and Haitians are generally very friendly and hospitable people, unfortunately you can not trust everyone. A group member should never walk alone or with someone who is not a member, a animator or a member of your family home. There are no exceptions to this rule.
13. Dominican youth coaches will ensure that all group members return to their safe house every night before 22:30. We demand that once made at home, you stay there until morning. It also means that you should not visit the other members of the group home after 22h. Again, there are no exceptions to this rule. Do not ask no special treatment.
14. We ask that you do not frequent bars, pubs or nightclubs. There will be opportunities to have fun during the week for group members, animators and host families.
15. The group determines the rules regarding alcohol consumption. Officials apply those in force in Canada and US.
16. Remember that many host families enjoy sharing their free time with their guests.
17. During visits to Batay and slums of Santo Domingo, along the streets of San Pedro de Macoris, we ask that you submit anything to the people you meet. This case will be studied during periods of reflection.
18. No exchange of personal email and also your phone number. The project does not allow the exchange by msn and facebook. This causes serious problems for the leaders and members of your family.
19. This is not an exhaustive list. If you have concerns or doubts, ask!
